So knowing your skin type can help you choose the best skin care products for your needs and learn how to take care of your skin.

Your skin type will determine the skin care items you select. Look for cleansers and moisturizers labeled "oil free" or "non-comedogenic" if your skin is prone to acne. These products won't clog your pores. Use gentle, or "fragrance-free" products if you have sensitive skin because fragrance-containing products can irritate and dry up your skin. Products marketed as "unscented," however, should be avoided because many of them still include overpowering scents that might irritate your skin.

Every day and after an exercise, wash your face.

Rather than washing your face with traditional bar soap, which sometimes contains harsh ingredients that can be harmful to the skin, try using a gentle facial cleanser and warm water.

Pay attention to how you shave. Multi-blade razors may shave too close to the skin or be too effective for certain guys. If you are prone to burns, razor bumps, or ingrown hairs, then, make sure to use a single blade razor instead of a double one, and try not to pull your skin taut when shaving. Moisturize your skin and hair before shaving to make them softer. Use a moisturizing shaving cream and shave in the direction that hair grows. Rinse your razor after each use to reduce irritation and change the blade every five to seven shaves.

Don’t forget to frequently moisturize. Your skin will appear brighter and younger-looking and more radiant, because moisturizers retain water in your skin. Apply moisturizer to your face and body as soon as you get out of the shower or bath, when your skin is still humid, for optimal benefits.

Always use sunscreen when you're outside. Before heading outside, apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of skin, including your lips, scalp, ears, and neck, to help prevent UV damage that can cause wrinkles, age spots, and even skin cancer. Apply sunscreen every two hours, right after getting into the pool, or as soon as you start to transpire for the most protection possible. Invest in a broad-spectrum, water-resistant product with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Since every man's skin type is unique, there is no "standard solution" when it comes to skin care. See an accredited dermatologist if you have any concerns, questions regarding skin care or if you are unsure of your skin type.
